For many of us, the winter months – and the festive period especially - are a time when we can escape the harsh, cold weather and cosy up with our friends and family indoors. Unfortunately, for so many of the LGBTQ+ young people that akt supports every year, this simply isn’t possible.

Over the last few years, the number of young people contacting us for support has increased immediately after the winter holiday period/s. The number of referrals to akt has increased on average by 112% from December to March, since December 2019. On top of this, 78% of LGBTQ+ young people experiencing or facing homelessness cited an absence of family support.

akt exists to help young LGBTQ+ people facing homelessness or living in hostile environments into safe, permanent accommodation. We do this by providing housing pathways for people referred to our services – this could take the form of help with navigating housing services, help with finding suitable homes, or simply advocating for them.
