Head teachers tell us that many children are disadvantaged at school or do not attend because of poverty. They are undernourished and unable to afford basic materials. Sometimes teachers bring food in to share with the poorest children. These difficulties have multiple causes, and arise out of the situation in their homes where poverty affects the lives of all family as well as damaging the educational opportunities and prospects.

We work with teachers to identify the children who are most vulnerable, and provide them with a meal at the start of the day at the breakfast club and also educational materials. The club also provides community workers to visit children at home. We arrange training and loans for guardians to set up small income generating businesses to improve the lives of all members of the family. This is an effective way of helping children and their families out of poverty.
