We rely on antibiotics to underpin modern medicine however in the UK, drug resistant infections result in 111,000 hospitalisations each year and kill more than 700,000 people globally. These numbers are increasing and anyone can be affected. Help us to fight this silent pandemic.

Bacterial variants which no longer respond to antibiotics are undermining modern medicine - thousands of people are needlessly dying. Add in the fact that COVID-19 opens the door to secondary bacterial infections which don’t always respond to antibiotic treatment (the virus weakens the immune system, leaving it susceptible to secondary bacterial infections and ventilation can also lead to infections), the problem is now even bigger. We must not sleepwalk into a bacterial pandemic.

Our vision is a World free from deaths caused by drug-resistant infections. To achieve this we need to ENGAGE, SUPPORT and FIND NEW MEDICAL TREATMENTS. e.g. encourage people not to misuse or over use antibiotics; engage with students who are the health care professionals of tomorrow; help those with antibiotic resistant infections to find their voice through our patient support programme; support talented young scientists to continue in research and commission research to find new treatments.
