Nottingham Arimathea Trust relies on donations to enable us to provide housing and support to failed asylum seekers. We currently have 2 houses providing 5 rooms for men and 5 rooms for women. We have secured a partnership to purchase 9 x 1 bedroomed flats for new refugees to prevent their homelessness. This project will also enable Nottingham Arimathea Trust to generate some unrestricted funds to support our core work of housing and supporting destitute asylum seekers. Since 2007 we have housed 35 destitute asylum seekers, of whom 32 have re-entered the mainstream support system following being able to register fresh claims for asylum. After using a stay with Arimathea, most of our clients have used their stay to provide some stability and help them gather new evidence in support of their claims for asylum.

Situation
We need to raise £9,000 to provide basic furnishings for each of the flats being purchased for our work, we also need to raise another £5000 to have sufficient cash flow to pay our rent for the properties when housing benefit ceases as we have tenants move on to permanent accommodation. Once this project opens the £5000 cash flow would be continuously re-invested by Nottingham Arimathea Trust in funding rent until Housing Benefit is paid. The anticipated income from this project would enable Nottingham Arimathea Trust to fund the ongoing running costs of 8 rooms in the 2 houses we currently run for destitute asylum seekers, who are not entitled to any benefits, housing or even permitted to work and cannot return to their countries of origin as the reasons they fled to the UK remain.
