Apart of Me is raising funds to expand our ‘Guiding Grief’ programme to schools. The scheme is a creative, peer mentoring and community-building programme for at-risk bereaved young people. We empower them to help other young people like themselves using peer support and co-design.

Young people are lonelier than ever before-research indicates that loneliness is a predictor of Complicated Grief and PTSD. 41% of youth offenders have experienced childhood bereavement,25% of under 20-yr olds who take their own life have experienced childhood bereavement, and 15% of mental health disorders stem from unresolved or complicated grief. Hard-to-reach young people don't want to sit in a room with a stranger and talk about their feelings. A ground-breaking alternative is badly needed.

Our programme aims to reduce loneliness in bereaved young people by bringing them together in their shared experience of loss. The programme trains young people who've lost a loved one to become AoM ‘Guides’– peer mentors and co-designers, who can both create and provide meaningful support for other young people experiencing grief. We aim for young people to make sense of their grief and use their lived experience as a powerful tool to help others whilst continuing to heal themselves.
