Research shows older care home residents are twice as likely to feel severely lonely as older people living in the community. The pandemic exacerbated this. We combat this loneliness and bring connection with trained volunteers. Your support will bring companionship, joy and hope.

    Situation

Care home residents can feel severely lonely and are often overlooked and ignored by the community. People mistakenly assume that because they're with others all their social needs are being met. This is simply not the case and residents have been more cut off than ever since the pandemic. One resident told us “You can be alone in a crowd, you really can". Another resident said "I haven't had a visitor for 2 years." The need is immense but it doesn’t take much to make a big difference.

    Solution

We recruit and train volunteers to befriend care home residents. Volunteers visit individual residents regularly building companionship in activities like chatting, going for a walk, playing a game, gardening – anything the resident enjoys. A 90 year old resident said her volunteer "absolutely transformed my life!" We will expand our regional projects and equip more churches to adopt their local care home, mobilising more volunteers to bring companionship and joy to care home residents.
